Returns & refunds policy

In accordance with the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 & ECT Act 25 of 2002

RETURNS & REFUNDS POLICY

1. OUR COMMITMENT

At The Oldfangled Leather Co, every product is handcrafted and inspected before it leaves our workshop. We stand behind the quality of our work and want you to be completely satisfied with your purchase. This policy sets out your rights and our obligations under South African law, as well as the fair and reasonable terms under which we accept returns.

2. CHANGE OF MIND RETURNS — 7-DAY WINDOW

We offer a voluntary 7-day return window from the date you receive your order, should you change your mind. This is over and above your statutory rights and is offered purely as a gesture of goodwill.

To qualify, the item must:

– Be unused and in its original, unaltered condition

– Not have been worn, used, oiled, conditioned, or treated in any way

– Be returned in its original packaging with all tags intact

– Not be a customised, personalised, or made-to-order item

– Be accompanied by your original proof of purchase (order number or receipt)

Return courier costs are the customer’s responsibility. We recommend using a tracked, insured courier service. The Oldfangled Leather Co cannot be held liable for items lost or damaged in transit on the return journey. Once we receive and inspect the returned item, we will process a refund or store credit within 5–7 business days.

3. DEFECTIVE OR INCORRECT GOODS — YOUR STATUTORY RIGHTS

In terms of Section 56 of the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008, if goods are found to be defective, not fit for purpose, or not of good quality, you are entitled to:

– Have the goods repaired or replaced at no cost to you, or

– Receive a full refund to your original payment method, or

– Receive store credit to the full value of your purchase, valid for 12 months

The choice of remedy is yours. This applies within 6 months of delivery. In such cases, return courier costs will be covered by The Oldfangled Leather Co.

Please notify us within 10 business days of receiving the item if you believe it is defective or incorrect. Notifications received after this period may still be assessed on a case-by-case basis at our discretion.

4. ONLINE PURCHASES — COOLING-OFF PERIOD

In terms of Section 16 of the CPA and the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002 (ECT Act), if you purchased via direct marketing or an electronic transaction, you have a 5 business day cooling-off period from date of delivery. You may cancel your order and return the goods during this period. Return courier costs in this instance are at your own expense.

5. ITEMS WE CANNOT ACCEPT BACK

The following items are not eligible for return or refund, unless defective:

– Customised, personalised, or made-to-order items (e.g. monogrammed, engraved, or custom-sized/designed/changed goods)

– Items that have been used, worn, oiled, treated, or altered in any way

– Items returned without proof of purchase

– Items returned after the 7-day voluntary return window has elapsed (unless defective)

– Items damaged due to misuse, negligence, or normal wear and tear

– Gift cards and vouchers

6. REFUND METHOD & PROCESSING TIME

Approved refunds will be processed to your original payment method, or as store credit if preferred, within 5–7 business days of us receiving and inspecting the returned goods. We will notify you by email once the refund has been initiated. Please note that banking processing times may mean funds take a further 2–3 business days to reflect in your account.

7. HOW TO INITIATE A RETURN

1. Email us at leather@theoldfangledleatherco.co.za with your order number, reason for return, and photos of the item if applicable.

2. We will respond within 2 business days to confirm whether the return is approved.

3. Once approved, securely package the item and ship it to our address using a tracked courier service.

4. Email us the tracking number once dispatched.

5. Upon receipt and inspection, we will process your refund, store credit, or replacement.

8. DISPUTE RESOLUTION

We are committed to resolving any disputes fairly and promptly. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may refer the matter to the National Consumer Commission (NCC) at www.thencc.org.za or call the DTI contact centre on 0861 843 384. This policy does not limit or waive any rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 or any other applicable South African legislation.

  • All prices are listed in South African Rand (ZAR)
  • Prices include VAT where applicable (if registered)
  • We reserve the right to change pricing at any time

Payment must be made in full before an order is processed and dispatched.

5. ORDER PROCESSING & DELIVERY

  • Orders are processed within 1–5 business days unless otherwise stated
  • Custom or made-to-order items may take longer
  • Delivery times depend on the courier and location

Risk in the goods passes to you upon delivery 

6. RETURNS & REFUNDS

All returns and refunds are governed by our Returns & Refunds Policy, available on our website.

By purchasing from us, you agree to that policy.

7. CONSUMER PROTECTION ACT (CPA)

Nothing in these Terms limits your rights under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 or the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002.

Where applicable, you are entitled to:

  • Fair value, good quality, and safety
  • Remedies for defective goods within 6 months

8. CUSTOM & PERSONALISED ITEMS

Custom-made or personalised products:

  • Are non-refundable unless defective
  • Cannot be cancelled once production has started

9. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

All content on this website, including images, logos, and product designs, is the property of The Oldfangled Leather Co and may not be used without permission.

10. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

We are not liable for:

  • Indirect or consequential damages
  • Delays caused by couriers or external factors
  • Misuse or improper care of products

Our maximum liability is limited to the value of the product purchased.

Your personal information is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable South African data protection laws.
